Project Overview
In my role at SA Consumer Products, I had the opportunity to design packaging for our new line of golf products under the Spalding brand. Our first launch of this product was a full line of kids and adults complete sets as a special makeup product for Dunham’s. A development process for this type of product launch typically takes 12-14 months, but we had an extreme timeline of just about 4 months.
Throughout this process, I led the packaging design for the kids line, assisted in photography direction and shoots, researched competition and trends in the golf industry, and chose color ways for each bag set. Working with my lead designer, Jason Oechslein, we ensured consistency across the kids and adults packaging and began to build a golf brand under Spalding’s existing brand.
Our concept work for these sets helped to sell in this new product into Dunham’s, gaining our company an unexpected sale for the year.
You can find Spalding’s SJR complete sets in store or online at Dunham’s. We are currently working on our inline packaging assortment.
Final Solution
We wanted the kids packaging to stand out from what our competitors have on the shelves right now. We noticed that there was an opportunity to infuse the packaging with more lifestyle photography and fun hand drawn elements to show personality. We wanted the packaging to communicate the connection aspect of golfing, whether between a parent and child or two kids playing together.
