Project Overview

Beaver Falls Film Festival required a brand identity for their first year of accepting submissions. The client wanted the brand to feel modern and vibrant, but needed the logo to be simple enough to work with their changing themes each year.

Process

I worked with Brkich’s creative director, Vivian Suarez, to put a mood board together with the client’s needs in mind. We added the Beaver Falls city logo (which was designed by Brkich Design Group) as we wanted the logo to be reminiscent of the county’s logo, but not identical. We also included bold colors, organic shapes, and sans-serif typography.

After mood-boarding, I began sketching. I tried out different abstract marks and film reel inspired marks.

Final Solution

The final mark is inspired by movie slates, with a clapboard about to be snapped shut combined with a speech bubble to represent the important themes communicated through film.

The bold angle and reversed out text contributes to a bold, edgy, and modern look, appealing to a younger demographic.
